Betfred Super League 2022
The Betfred Super League 2022 season kicks off this week, with the reigning champions St Helens facing Catalans Dragons in the opening game.
Betfred Super League Preview
Having won the previous three Betfred Super League titles, St Helens are the team to beat. The champions have seen new signings from the NRL join the squad, following the departure of key players from the title-winning team. Lachlan Coote, Theo Fages and James Bentley have all moved on to other Super League clubs.
Betfred Super League challengers
With no Super League success since 2017, the Leeds Rhinos have a strong side heading into the new season. The signings of Blake Austin and Aidan Sezer are exactly what the side needed.
The quality and leadership the pair bring provide the Rhinos with a great opportunity of getting back to Old Trafford. Leeds start the new season at home to Warrington live on Channel 4.
The big new signings for Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves are their new managers. Matt Peet has taken over at Wigan, with former Castleford manager Daryl Powell now in charge at the Wolves.
Both clubs have made signings to look out for. Peter Matautia is an exciting prospect for Wire fans. Cade Cust is the Warriors new half-back, Wigan has also added to their forwards in the hope of improving on the disappointing finish to last season.
Catalans are expected to have another successful year with Mitchell Pearce joining the club. Hull Kingston Rovers have added the experienced Lachlan Coote to their side as they look to go one step further than last season. Their rivals Hull FC have seen long servent Marc Sneyd leave to be replaced by former Leeds and England International Luke Gayle.
Huddersfield Giants, Castleford Tigers and the Salford Red Devils have all recruited well in the offseason. The Giants have a new half-back partnership in Theo Fages and Tui Lolohea.
Castleford now has former Hull FC coach Lee Radford in charge who has made some key additions to his side in Mahe Fonua, Jake Mamo and Joe Westerman.
Salford has strengthened their side with a number of new signings the most notable Ryan Brierley and Brodie Croft. Wakefield and Toulouse have made signings themselves but have arguably the two weakest squads in the league.
