MLB Rumour
Over a fortnight into the season, the MLB rumour mill has quietened. Front offices league-wide are still pondering trades, but focus is on the packed MLB schedule right now.
Big games are happening on a nightly basis. The Yankees and Blue Jays have matched up in the American League East. Other divisional rivalries have got what could be a season-long battle underway. Next week, though, all eyes turn to the west coast, and the first instalment of a year laden with Dodgers vs Padres predictions.
The reigning World Series champions got off to a red-hot start. Even with Cody Bellinger on the IL and Mookie Betts missing games, the Dodgers have picked up where they left off.
Dodgers vs Padres Prediction
The Dodgers and Padres were at the centre of MLB rumour reports throughout the offseason. Los Angeles signed Trevor Bauer to a record-breaking deal.
San Diego swung for the fences with trades for Yu Darvish, Blake Snell and Joe Musgrove. Kim Ha-Seong arrived from South Korea and has immediately had a key role to play with Fernando Tatis Jr unavailable.
The two National League betting favourites get their season series underway on Friday. It’s three in San Diego before four in Los Angeles starting on April 22nd.
Injuries are already troubling the Friars. Wil Myers has a knee issue, and Tatis’ absence makes their offence considerably less scary. Snell endured a rough third start of the season, too.
Although only on the periphery of MLB rumour excitement during the offseason, it’s been Musgrove who has shone brightest. He’s been masterful in three starts. His place in Padres history is secure already too, after throwing the first ever Padres no-hitter.
It’s hard to overlook the champions in any Dodgers vs Padres prediction. Los Angeles has been immense so far.
They have conceded five or fewer runs in 10 of their 12 games, but that’s a feat almost matched by the Padres. Expect low-scoring, tense games between two of the best teams in baseball.
Giants vs Phillies
Projections were mixed on these two teams. After being the subject of MLB rumour speculation for Giancarlo Stanton, Bryce Harper and Shohei Ohtani in previous offseasons, the San Francisco Giants were quieter this winter.
The Phillies re-signed Didi Gregorius and J.T. Realmuto. Their bullpen got an overhaul after an historically bad 2020 too, which has brought positive results early on.
These two storied franchises play a three-game set starting on April 19th. San Francisco has begun the year well, owning an 8-4 record, and will be pleased to avoid a matchup with Aaron Nola in this series. The Giants have got some good early production from their veterans, and their pitching has been superb
Despite the extra star power of the Phils, these are two well-matched teams. The under has hit in 75% of Giants games so far – plenty of bettors will be wagering on the under in this series.
Angels vs Astros
It’s the second Angels vs Astros series of the season next week. A four-game set starts on April 22nd in Houston as Joe Maddon’s Angels look to build on a strong couple of weeks.
The heroics of Shohei Ohtani have grabbed the attention early on, and understandably so. Pitching in three figures, hitting massive homers and posting elite sprint speeds, Ohtani is arguably the sport’s biggest star, and he’s playing alongside MLB’s greatest player in Mike Trout.
MLB injury updates are unclear on when Ohtani will next pitch, however. A blister has been troubling him. Neutrals will be hoping he’s good to go against the Astros.
Houston started their season well. A sweep at the hands of the Tigers was a real blow, though, and they will need to be on top of their game against an Angels team playing well.
