Toronto has a favourable schedule. The Jays should make up ground thanks to series with the Orioles and Twins. Taking on the Yankees is a chance for Toronto to reassert themselves in the American League wildcard picture.
The Red Sox have gone 20-24 since just before the break. Having been red-hot for a prolonged period, the Yankees hit a poorly timed losing streak at the end of August. There’s an opening for this talented Jays club.
New York will still hope to catch the Rays. They have a lot of winnable games to do just that, but beating the Blue Jays is important to keep them at arm’s length.
The first series will be a blockbuster. Only time will tell how impactful the duel in Canada will be.
Atlanta Braves vs Philadelphia Phillies
The NL East race is a storyline to follow throughout the MLB schedule September 2021. Atlanta has the upper hand, but the Phillies and Mets are still in contention. The Braves and Phillies matchup for a three-game set in Georgia between the 28th and 30th of September.
This is going to the wire. Philadelphia has the easiest remaining schedule in MLB. Atlanta has plenty of favourable series too, and their pitching has got healthy, but with just a 2.5-game lead at the start of the month, the division should be alive when they meet at Truist Park.
The Phils have a 9-7 advantage in the season series. Atlanta have been playing their best baseball over the last few weeks, though, and the teams split their only series in the second half.
It’s advantage Braves, but this series will be must-watch baseball.
