Premier League 2021/22 – Matchday 4
Fresh off the international break, it’s time for Premier League 2021/22 – Matchday 4. There’s a sense of where teams stand after three matches, though many are yet to fully introduce all of their new signings.
A London derby kicks things off upon the Premier League’s return. Tottenham travel to Crystal Palace in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off before six matches get underway at 3pm. Leicester V Manchester City is the pick of the bunch.
Aston Villa head to west London in the evening match and there’s just one match on Sunday as Leeds host Liverpool.
Let’s take a look at three of the most intriguing matches in Premier League 2021/22 – Matchday 4…
Leicester V Manchester City
It’s six points apiece for Leicester and Manchester City so far. The Foxes bounced back from a heavy defeat to West Ham with a solid win over Norwich, while the reigning champions have notched consecutive 5-0 wins following their shock defeat to Tottenham.
Leicester have caused City problems in the recent past. Their Community Shield win makes it two victories in three meetings. A 5-2 thriller at the Etihad last September was one of those wins – Brendan Rodgers will hope to follow a similar blueprint on Saturday.
City have gone from strength to strength since then, however. Their defence is more solid than at any point in the Pep Guardiola era.
The visitors are comfortably favoured by the bookies. It will take a special performance from Rodgers’ team to avoid defeat.
Leicester Odds (5/1) V Manchester City Odds (3/5} Prediction: Leicester 0-2 Manchester City
Chelsea V Aston Villa
Thomas Tuchel couldn’t have asked for much more from his team at Anfield before the international break. Chelsea were solid throughout and dug deep following Reece James’ controversial red card. The Blues are unbeaten heading into Premier League 2021/22 – matchday 4.
It’s a different tale for Aston Villa. Sloppy against Watford and outplayed by Brentford, they are still adapting to the post-Grealish era. Only four teams have registered fewer expected goals through three matches.
Villa’s backline is in for a serious test. Arsenal’s defence was terrorised by Romelu Lukaku. Mason Mount and Kai Havertz have proved very difficult to keep quiet. Chelsea’s defence has done a stellar job at limiting goal scoring opportunities, as they have since Tuchel took over.
This should be a routine home win for the Blues. Fatigue after the break could be a factor, but a home win at Stamford Bridge should be one of the bankers in Premier League 2021/22 – matchday 4.
Chelsea Odds (3/10) V Aston Villa Odds (11/1) Prediction: Chelsea 2-0 Aston Villa
Leeds V Liverpool
Liverpool easily beat Norwich and Burnley as expected, but they were unable to get the breakthrough against Chelsea’s 10 men at Anfield. They face a unique duel on Sunday as they head to Elland Road for a high-intensity clash with Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds.
With just two points so far, it’s been far from ideal start to the season for the Yorkshire club. There’s no question they will change the way they play, though. Bielsa’s side will fly out the blocks on Sunday.
There was a 1-1 and a 4-3 between these teams last season. Both matches were end-to-end, with a total of 57 shots across the 180 minutes.
This really could go either way, but Liverpool’s high line is vulnerable to Leeds’ ultra-direct attack. We’re expecting plenty of goals in the only Sunday fixture of Premier League 2021/22 – matchday 4.
Leeds Odds V Liverpool Odds Prediction: Leeds 2-2 Liverpool
