Premier League 2021/22 – Matchday 8
Let’s take a look at the best Premier League 2021/22 – Matchday 8 fixtures.
Brentford V Chelsea
Brentford continue to impress. It’s seven points from three matches for The Bees after their impressive win away to West Ham before the break. Thomas Frank’s team have another London derby on the schedule as they welcome European champions Chelsea to Brentford Community Stadium.
The Blues haven’t been at their best of late. Romelu Lukaku has no goal contributions in his last five club appearances. A previously rock-solid defence hasn’t kept a clean sheet in its last four matches.
Brentford are fourth in expected goals against this term and have conceded just three times in four home league matches. While Chelsea have scored plenty of late, they need Lukaku to regain his best form for what should be another challenging London derby.
The bookies obviously favour Chelsea for this one but don’t write off Brentford. They have already got some impressive results this season and they could catch Chelsea out here.
Everton V West Ham
These two teams are fighting to be the best of the rest. A top-six finish is a realistic ambition for these clubs, and it’s another chance for Rafa Benitez and David Moyes to go head-to-head.
Everton are a perfect three wins from three at Goodison Park this season. Scoring eight and conceding two in the process, the hosts are full of confidence. The same can’t be said for West Ham.
The Irons have won just once in five league outings. Performances and underlying statistics are impressive, though, with Moyes’ team sitting fourth in expected goal difference per 90, just behind Everton.
West Ham won this fixture last season, but that’s a big ask this time. While it could go either way, Everton have to be our pick.
Arsenal V Crystal Palace
Arsenal have 10 points from four matches after a torrid start to the season. They face a Crystal Palace side who have struggled to put it all together so far, resulting in just one win from seven league matches.
There have been good signs for the Eagles. The attack has more vigour than in recent years, and their expected numbers suggest they have been unlucky to concede as many goals as they have.
While Arsenal made real progress before the international break, it’s tempting to back Palace in this one. There’s value on Patrick Vieira’s side to avoid defeat – they can expose some of Arsenal’s defensive vulnerabilities with their transition attack.
